Batumi hosts 'Day of Azerbaijan' dedicated to 88th birthday of Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev
The Consulate General of Azerbaijan has held a ceremonial event "Day of Azerbaijan" at the Batumi State University in connection with the 88th birthday of Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and the 20th anniversary of State Independence of the Republic.
The event was attended by Chairman of Government of Autonomous Republic of Adjara L. Varshalomidze, the mayor of Batumi, R. Chkheidze, Minister of Cultur and Education G. Abuladze, Agriculture Minister D. Surmanidze, ranking officers of the government and ministries, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Batumi, the professors, teaching staff of Batumi State University, students of universities, as well as representatives of public and media in Adjara.
The Consul General Huseyin Najafov delivered a report on the topic "Azerbaijan: History and Modernity". In his report, Najafov told about the rich, centuries-old history and culture of Azerbaijan, the history and current state of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He noted that economic, political and diplomatic achievements of Azerbaijan over the years have been inextricably linked with the name of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. As a result of economic reforms initiated by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and successfully continued by
President Ilham Aliyev, today Azerbaijan has become one of the most rapidly developing countries in the world, said Najafov.
The guests at the event were presented a photo exhibition on the life and activities of Heydar Aliyev, as well as a documentary film "When we say Azerbaijan.
