Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Mikheil Janelidze, Foreign Minister of Georgia who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
During the meeting the sides expressed their satisfaction on the development of ties in all fields, including political, economic, cultural and other areas between the two countries based on good neighborly relations.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted that the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia deriving from interests of the peoples of both countries and the political willingness of our high leadership makes a significant contribution to further this cooperation.
Stressing the importance of joint regional projects, Ministers expressed strong assurance that the launch of Southern Gas Corridor, which mainly involves TAP and TANAP projects, as well as Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will give an impetus to the regional partnership. In this context, the sides commended conclusions of Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Second Ministerial Meeting.
Mikheil Janelidze stressed that Azerbaijan remains the strategic partner of Georgia adding that the operation of Baku-Supsa, Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil-gas pipelines serve as a good example of successful cooperation in the field of energy between the two countries.
At the meeting the sides noted with satisfaction the current status of legal framework between the two countries and mentioned that more than one hundred documents have been signed between Azerbaijan and Georgia so far. On delimitation issues, the Ministers commended the successful work done so far and stated that the next meeting of the Working Group will be held in the near future.
Briefing about the settlement process of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and the destructive policy of Armenia, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov emphasized that the occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia remains a major threat for regional development.
The Ministers reaffirmed mutual support respectively to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and Georgia within the internationally recognized borders.
The development of interparliamentary relations, the ways for further promotion of cooperation in tourism field and other issues of mutual concern were discussed at the meeting.
